I like not having all of those wasteful nets but, on the downside, the birds just love these balls far too much that I order the largest quantity I can afford to see me through Autumn/Winter. I ration them when the migrant starlings arrive as no other birds, except the magpies and rooks, can compete, with the latter trying to steal the whole feeder full! I do play ‘hide the fat ball’ in places that favour the smaller birds, but they still don’t last long.
I have tried several types of the cheaper superstore fat balls but, mostly, they just do not get touched. I’d sooner my little visitors ate and enjoyed their food than waste money on the cheaper balls.
